Last weekend, I had the opportunity to step away from my usual routine and immerse myself in the natural beauty of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, where I led a sunrise meditation overlooking a lake at the Grit Fitness retreat. Being surrounded by crisp air, tall trees, and still waters created a backdrop that reminded me of the power of nature in nurturing our sense of peace and presence.

Arriving in Broken Bow felt like a reset in itself as if the trees were inviting us to slow down and truly see our surroundings. The mornings were chilly, a gentle nudge from nature reminding us that fall was near. Yet, watching the sun peek over the horizon, casting warm hues over the water, made it easy to forget the cold. In that quiet stillness, guiding a meditation for the group felt deeply fulfilling, like a shared journey of grounding and reconnection.

Each day at the retreat was packed with activities that not only challenged us physically but also encouraged us to connect inward. Between workouts, we delved into a goal-setting workshop, setting intentions that left me feeling motivated and renewed for the end of the year.

By the end of the weekend, I wasn’t just refreshed; I was inspired! Inspired to continue sharing meditation with others, inspired to connect with others more deeply, inspired to live life to the fullest! I left with fond memories and new friendships, a reminder that in taking the time to connect—both with nature and with each other—we create space for growth, peace, and presence in our everyday lives.

Broken Bow reaffirmed the beauty of being present, of simply being. As we move into fall, I carry with me that sunrise over the lake, the stillness of the trees, and the friendships made, all wrapped in the warmth of a season dedicated to embracing change and gratitude.

Three Lessons I Learned from My Weekend in Broken Bow:

  1. Nature has a way of grounding us. In the fast pace of everyday life, it’s easy to lose touch with the present moment. But being surrounded by the stillness of the lake and the quiet beauty of nature reminded me how simply being in nature can help us reconnect with ourselves and find calm

  2. Community brings unexpected growth. While I went to Broken Bow to lead a meditation, I left with much more than I expected. The connections made and conversations shared with new friends reminded me how powerful it can be to open ourselves up to others. In doing so, we allow space for deeper insights, healing, and personal growth.

  3. The value of embracing discomfort. It was cold during our sunrise meditation, and the workouts were challenging, but leaning into those moments of discomfort brought a sense of reward and fulfillment. I learned that pushing beyond the initial resistance—whether physical or mental—can lead to an incredible sense of accomplishment and renewal.

Welcome to Fall! What are you most looking forward to this season?
